In 1997 the International Coaching Certification Standards Board was formed to develop a formal accreditation process for coaching and to advance the areas of coaching specialties.
The ICCSB merged with the National Society of Executive & Business Coaches. The NSEBC began board certification of business and executive coaches in 1989.
The ICCSB increased the board certification from 5 areas of specialties and expanded that to 11 areas of specialties by 2014. The area of specialties will continue to grow as more accredited coaching programs expand.
The International Coaching Certification Standards Board is the oldest board certifying organization for coach specialties. The ICCSB was the first to “board certify” coaches and is recognized internationally for the highest standards of its members.
